Over his 62 years Charles Plaskon has fought many battles, the greatest of which is his battle over blindness.
Born with the hereditary condition Macular Degeneration, Charles grew up in Long Island, New York and worked as a teacher for thirty-two years. People with disabilities during this time were looked at as incapable and were cast aside and so he told nobody of his condition.
In 1999, he retired and moved with his wife Betty to Naples, Florida. While in Naples, he discovered a new found passion in running. He did his first marathon in 2001 and since has done eight more, including Boston and New York. Over the past two years he has refocused his training towards triathlon and has joined the C-Different Foundation.
As a part of the C-Different Foundation, Charles has competed in the Malibu triathlon, California Half Ironman, Walt Disney Half Ironman and will conquer the king of them all, the Ironman, in June when he races in Ironman Couer d’ Alene. Charles has a great attitude on life and is an inspiration to us all. We wish him luck in all of his future endeavors.
