Adrian Broca is living a very compelling story. His quest is to become one of the world's best blind marathoners.
Adrian is a 31-year-old immigrant from Mexico who carries a 3.7 GPA at Cal State Los Angeles in Business and Finance. He is also one of only two blind American runners who have broken the 3- hour marathon mark in the past year. He will qualify for the World Paralympics/USOC Games, once he runs a two-hour and fifty-six minute race, which is four minutes off his best time.
Adrian got one step closer to this goal by running 2:50:31 in this year’s St. George Marathon with the wonderful assistance of four volunteer guides from the Southern Utah University cross country team.
For the last three years, Adrian has also been blessed with the opportunity to compete in the Boston Marathon. This year, he came in first in the Visually Impaired Division after placing second the two previous years.
Adrian’s blindness is the result of a genetic disorder that was first manifested about 13 years ago. His chronicling of his personal growth through marathoning since the onset of the disability is truly inspirational. One can only marvel when he describes dusting himself off after crashing into unexpected obstacles along his memorized training route.
He has generated significant media attention, having been featured on TV and newspaper numerous times over the past two years. Please click on the following links:
